Food Cooling
The Lake Lorsath cleverly use large clay pots and the heat transfer from evaporating water to preserve their food.
Utility
The cooling pots are made from two large clay jars, one placed inside the other, as well as some sand. The sand forms a layer between the outside of the smaller jar and the inside of the larger jar. Water is poured into the sand and a wet cloth is placed over the tops of the jars. The water evaporates from the sand and draws heat away from whatever is inside the smaller pot.
This method of preservation can be used for meat, fish, and plant products. The inside of a Lorsath spire is already cool enough because of the water evaporating off the outside of the stone walls, making this method especially effective.
Social Impact
As with everything else the Lorsath are tied to, the act of keeping their food cool involves water. Water is a source of life for each intelligent race, but especially the Lorsath, and this is evidenced by their many ties to the element, including this method of preserving their food.
Access & Availability
Every Lake Lorsath household has access to at least one cooling pot.
Discovery
Being people who alternate between life on land and life underwater, the Lorsath are well-acquainted with the cooling effect of water evaporation. Who first used the phenomenon to preserve food for longer is lost to time, but the tradition has lasted until the current day.
