Clockwork Beast
The Clockwork Beast is one of the three main gods of the world. Built by the gnomes of the Order of Invention some time in the sixth century, the Beast was imbued with magic not at all understood by its creators (who were not nearly as adept at magical building as the dwarves), and soon grew beyond their control.
Not much is known of its first 100 years. It is clear that it ventured across the sea, however, and shortly thereafter began building more Clockwork beings, uniting them under the banner of the The Clockwork Collective.
Early in the eighth century, the Beast taught the Clockwork people how to mine. Around this same time, the Clockwork Collective fell victim to ideological infighting, ultimately splintering into three major factions. Battles between the factions spilled into aggression against neighboring civilizations, ultimately leading to The Clockwork Wars that blanketed the globe. At the height of the conflict, the Beast gathered its most loyal followers and vanished. Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, this inner circle of Clockworks set up a community on the moon.
In its absence, the inhabitants of the world came to assume the Beast was responsible for the most destructive and hateful aspects of Clockwork ideology. It is generally seen as the patron of the slavers and annihilators, whereas in reality, it hues more closely to the harmony faction's beliefs.
It was revealed to a group of Adventurers in 731 CE by The Jelly of Determinism that one of the unknown magics was the essence of Clavius , a mad Moon Mystic.
