Empire of Lothairia
The Lotharian Empire was founded in 741 AH by Lothair I. Its primary reason for existence was to protect the various towns and villages in the surrounding lands.
As time passed the peoples in the surrounding borderlands wanted the same prosperity and security for themselves and their families which the Empire afforded its citizens. Eventually, some surrounding areas asked Lothaire to join the growing state. Lothaire saw all the peoples as his own, and hoping to give them the same peace he accepted. This kindhearted gesture turned out to be a pretense for some surrounding tribes and kingdoms to declare war on the Lotharians. The Emperor raised a host and defeated 2 of his 3 enemies, unfortunately, the Andrimites managed to beat back Lothaire's armies and even sacked the Capital, Lothairia. With this gesture the conflict was over.
Lothaire was a kind man but also an ambitious one, therefore, this defeat only fueled his desire for a peaceful and prosperous Empire. He set to work to reform the laws, the army and even society as a whole and wrote the Codex of Law known as the Law of Lothaire. This collection of laws, statutes, commandments and advice is still followed to this day with some minor changes enacted over the centuries.
Having reorganized his society to degrees of efficiency never before seen in a human polity, Lothaire crushed the Andrimites , "civilized" them and incorporated them into the Empire. This marked the turning point for the Empire where it started expanding and eventually encompassed the whole southern continent right up to the Divine Elven Kingdom.
Today the Empire is in an extremely precarious state. The Despot of Castria Alaric II is close to full revolt and the Despot of Lavenia Bertram I is held back only by the marriage of his sister Alia to the current Emperor Lothair XV of Lothairia. Alaric, Bertram and the other Despots have mostly wiped out the other great noble houses or at the very least revoked their lands in order to accumulate as much power as possible before undermining the Emperor.
Besides the internal struggles questionable advice from the council as well as the ambition of the late Prince Emund of Lothairia have thrust the Empire into a 3-sided war between the Divine Elven Kingdoms of Thilaron, Doralean and Yemar on the side of the weakest power in Thilaron. The war is currently being managed by the Protectorates of Agripica and Colovipon but the generals fear their power alone might not be enough to swing the balance of power in Thilaron's favor.
Only time will tell what is in store for the Empire of Lothairia.

Demography and Population
The Empire is home to about 10 million souls who are a mix of citizens, freemen and former slaves. The majority of the Lotharian Empire's population is comprised of Lotharian Humans who amount to about 71% of the total population.
Halflings are the largest minority within the Empire composing about 12% of the total population. Practically all the Halflings within the Empire are citizens since they had lived on the same lands for decades. The Empire defines 2 types of Halflings, Sharp Halflings, who are more active and adventurous and often enlist within the Empire's military in the Halfling regiments and Dull Halflings who are more sedentary in their lifestyle and are very often landowners and farmers who contribute a very large share of the Empire's farmed crops to the population despite comprising only about a 10th of the entire population.
Due to the war between the Elven Divine Kingdoms there has been an influx of Elven immigrants who are welcomed within the Empire as skilled workers, artisans and craftsmen. Elves have lived within the Empire's borders ever since its founding and most of them are citizens. The Elves have their own regiments within the Empire predominantly tasked with either Magical Operations, Scouting, or Supporting. With the recent increase of the Elven population their minority within the empire came up to about 8% of the total population.
Dwarves are another minority group within the Empire composing about 6% of the total population. Since Dwarves travel around a lot around half of them are citizens of the Empire with the other half being merchants, adventurers and recent arrivals. The Empire employs a few Dwarven regiments within it's military which usually acts as an anvil or mailed fist in wars.
The remaining 3% of the population of the Lothairian Empire are various races from all over Atia. Some have managed to achieve citizenship, whilst others are freemen or recently released slaves. There is little to no prejudice against different races within the Empire as long as its laws and customs are upheld.
