The Horrifying Jackalope
The Dark Coast is filled with ambient magic that both punches through into other dimensions and the outer planes and alters the world around it, creating aberrations and monsters among other things. One of the most horrifying aberrations created in the Dark Coast is the carnivorous cross between a Rabbit and a large Antelope. This mythical but very real Jackalope is at the top of its food chain, often weighs a ton, and worse, hunts in packs. A pack of Jackalopes is what was the ultimate end for Pedro Ataide's famous last expedition to the Dark Coast. To this day these horrifying creatures haunt the tales of adventurers that brave the Dark Lands in search of treasure. The terror of this creature is so profound that the fear of this creature creates its own Trans-Dimensional Harmonics bleeding into our world in the form of legends.

Our first clue that they were there was a horrible howling sound in the darkness, little did I know it meant they were hunting us. Encircling us. Then they came at us like all huge predators do ... FAST! The big sharp teeth gleaming in the moonlight, the horns sharp, and the ears flapping like great wings! It was horrible. Three of us were down before we were even on our feet. I swear I saw one take Cristobal's head in one bite! We fled to the whale boats and began shoving off as quickly as we could, but not before one gored Captain Ataide. I think the horns are poisoned too because he had a fever within an hour. He died later when we got him back to the ship and started to sail for home.
