Powder Monkey Miles first met the Boatmen⁣⁣ in the prisons beneath Fort Worthy. There Hector approached him and asked him if he knew John Smithson. Caught off guard by a random asking him about his recently deceased mentor made him a little mad that they'd come to gloat. However, when Hector informed him that John was still alive he was shocked. Assuming they must then be here to get information on where he'd be hiding he grew fearful but Hector had more to reveal to him. Explaining that he was First Officer Silvers, the Naval officer who rebelled against the Empire, and a friend of John. Miles was taken aback and found this hard to believe, Silvers had been missing for a year and although John had spoken of him why would he be here now? He knew one way he could tell, he asked Hector to prove it with his compass if he was who he says he is. Then Hector proceeded to show him, and offered him the choice to keep helping Makonia but from the outside, and take down everything that is wrong with it. Torn between his ideals and his mentor, he realised that he could do nothing rotting in a prison, but at least he could see the change that Hector was offering out there, and he took it.

"My ideal date? I'm not sure that's professional but I guess it'd be in the evening perhaps going to an opera or play and then to a nice dinner where we could discuss the entertainment and use that as an icebreaker for any awkwardness so that the night can be familiar."
