Arbiter

This is the basic rank of The Arbiters, representing the bulk of its members. The rank of Arbiter is granted to Apprentice Arbiters who have completed the final trial and emerged victorious.   Arbiters are expected to follow orders when they are given, but otherwise they are free to travel the Atraelian Empire as they please and keep the peace as they see fit. Some enter the direct service of a Knight-Captain and remain with that person until they advance, whilst others seek their own path, earning renown and advancing when their deeds can no longer be ignored. In order to ensure their availability for emergencies, all Arbiters still check in with Knight-Captains regularly.

Qualifications

Arbiters must be graduates of Traylam Academy.

Appointment

After completing the final trial, an Apprentice Arbiter is raised to the rank of Arbiter by the Senior Arbiter who oversaw their trials, with the approval and attendance of the Knight-Captain who accompanied them.

Duties

The Arbiter's primary duty is peacekeeping. This is a very broad mandate, and may include anything from simple policing to exterminating monsters.

Responsibilities

Arbiters are expected to report to their superiors regularly if they are not directly in the service of a Knight-Captain or above. Arbiters are expected to help each other whenever possible, and never infight.

Benefits

Arbiters are respected by most everyone in the Atraelian Empire, and many people offer gifts to them simply due to their honored status. Arbiters are also considered mostly above the law, and their judgement is rarely questioned by ordinary citizens.

Accoutrements & Equipment

Arbiters are granted a luxurious black silken cloak with a golden falcon clasp. The falcon for this rank has its wings mostly folded, but is beginning to stretch them, signifying the Arbiter's rising status in the order.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Dishonoring the order in a great way, such as participating in heinous crimes or murdering someone are grounds for immediate dismissal. If the murder was of another Arbiter, the accused is sentenced to death, to be carried out by his direct superior.
