The day the 8 barrel gatling was finished by the descendant of Zhang Cho, Zhang Chenglei, for the emperor of Junihoshi. It recieved the name 'gatling' on account of the noises it made when fired.

After many failed attempts of a rapid fire weapon, Zhang saw that it wasn't a problem with the design, but with the matchlock trigger mechanism. He developed a more mechanical design using the friction of a turning wheel to ignite the black powder in each barrel one at a time. He named it the 'wheel-lock' on account of the wheel.
