Calanthe (Cah-lanth-ee)

Overview

Calanthe is a country in North Western Σu'ryxia. It covers approximately 135,000 square miles and has a population of 21.2 million inhabitants. Calanthe's rolling hills border The Golden Shores, Kingdom Pass and The Ivory Forest. Calanthe's capital city is Val T'loré - nicknamed 'The City of Gold'.

History

Calanthe was founded by High Elves in 6331 BXR during expeditions across The Golden Shores when trying to find a way across The Western Spine. Many Elves began to migrate from Everen due to overpopulation. The new country soon became a separate monarchy reminiscent of High Elf culture. However due to prejudice between the Sun Elves and Moon Elves, the Calanthican throne was in constant shift as each race fought for royalty. Until recently, the throne belonged to a long line of Moon Elves. However, the current ruler, King Strividn, was born a Sun Elf and stripped of his royal status. In retaliation he led a revolt against his family and won the throne for himself. In 515 AXR, Calanthe joined The Estrialist Rebellion in an effort to stop The Everen Empire from taking over the West.

Government

Calanthe is a monarchy under King Strividn. Underneath the King is the Royal Conclave; the King's private advisors. The Government is based in Val T'loré - all decisions are made in the North and are then passed through the rest of the country. Laws are enforced by Sovereign Officers, known colloquially as the 'Goldmen'.
