Ironbark Woods

The Ironbark woods dominate the skyline north of Westmarch a dense forest over 20 miles across. To the people of the town, little is known about the foreboding forest, the few brave loggers or trappers that have dared ventured there have returned with scars and lost limbs or more often not returned at all.   Recently a group of pathfinders established a watchtower near the western border of the wood at Red Drake Rise, during its construction they encountered many different creatures from the forest, most notably a pair of fearsome guard drakes.

Geography

The Ironbark Forest grows over the mostly flat terrain of Kaldur’s Gauntlet.'s basin. Its trees grow strong and tall on the abundant primal mana that the untamed land produces.

Fauna & Flora

Due to the hags influence over the strong magical energies that have suffused the woods, the trees have grown to be extra gnarled and resilient and their bark forms plates of natural armour around them, the wildlife has been likewise twisted and mutated into dark dire versions of themselves.   If the corruption can be cleansed then these effects can be reversed.

Natural Resources

The Ironbark trees for which the forest takes it name are highly sought after for their use as superior construction materials.

History

After the mana storm and the sealing of the realm gates, many fey creatures were stranded on Avaria. Some others tried to conquer this new world and establish their own domains, others tried to blend in with the civilised folk for anonymity and protection while still others sought refuge in the wild places of the world seeking to recreate the worlds they once knew.   At the heart of the Ironbark Forest is a grove of great power, a small stone summoning circle stands amidst a clearing. The land around it, however, is dying as an ancient hag has claimed this once sacred place as her home.

Tourism

None would visit the Ironbark Woods except for resources or to test themselves against the creatures that lurk within.
