Red Drake Rise
A village built atop a 60-foot hill near the Ironbark Woods
Demographics
Mostly humans from Valgarde, a small community of Sparkhaven gnomes have also taken up residence in town and there are small populations of Dwarves, Aelves and Drakkar.
Government
Jarl Stormwolf was appointed by Marchioness Ashfield to lead the town and is entrusted to handle the day to day running of the town and see to its expansion and defence. Now a formal province 10% of any product is taxed and shipped to Westmarch by biweekly caravan along the imperial highway.
Defences
A large wall of Ironbark has been constructed around the small town roughly 10 feet up the hill providing a formidable obstacle. A large watchtower dominates the centre of the plateau which allows full view of the surrounding lands. If the Watchtower bell is rung the farmers take refuge inside the walls while the stationed guardsmen see to the threat.
Industry & Trade
The primary purpose of the village is to protect the northern border of the province and provide safe shelter for those travelling to and from Westmarch. The main export is Ironbark from the nearby Wode, the wood is much stronger than traditional lumbar and must be harvested with the utmost care from the dangerous forest.
Infrastructure
The gnomes have built a system of wells throughout the town that allows freshwater to be gathered from the nearby river and stored in cool, clean conditions for drinking. The town employed a family of ewers to keep the water levels topped up.
Assets
The local inn is called the Hen and Harpy and is run by Olisa Stoutslinger.
The Jarl lives in Stormwolf Hall.
There are two dozen small holding in town and several dozen more outside the walls.
History
The village was first founded in 431 when the watchtower was first built. It takes its name from the deadly drakes that live in the nearby forest who attacked the builders when they first arrived. When the province of Westmarch was founded, Marchioness Milena Ashfield appointed her long-trusted ally Johanna Stormwolf to the position of Baron or Jarl in the Nordir's custom.
