VCSMA (Vantium Composite Selectively Malleable Armor)
VCSMA, or Vantium Composite Selectively Malleable Armor, is used almost exclusively by the Saurian Empire. It is a type of armor used in void ships that allows the impact of solid objects, such as rail gun and mass driver projectiles, to impact the hull of the vessel without piercing a hole. This is accomplished by an advanced computer system that detects when a missile is about to collide with the hull of the ship and immediately runs a strong electrical current through only that selected area of armor. Due to the ability of Vantium to become extremely malleable when it is exposed to electricity, the projectile ends up hitting what is essentially a metal with the consistency of a very strong putty. This essentially catches the missile and slows it down, which prevents it from piercing a hole in the hull of the ship, instead only causing a vastly preferable indentation. The obvious counter to this type of armor would be to fire electricity at it prematurely so that a much larger area becomes malleable and compromises the structural integrity of the whole vessel. This problem is cured on Saurian ships in two ways, the first being a Davantium skeleton (stronger and much less effected by electricity) being placed beneath the VCSMA skin, and also the other type of armor that is almost anyways layered over it (EHLRHP) that absorbs laser beams as well as heat and electricity.
