War For Armatos

The war began with the Walren invasion fleet entering through a warp gate near the northern hemisphere of the planet's moon. Soon the small Kadar fleet guarding the world arrived on scene and a 5-day naval engagement ensued... the Kadar losing 24 ships and the Walren losing 16... the remaining Kadar ships fell back to the equatorial area of the planet itself. After a small skirmish on the surface of the moon (from survivors of downed ships) the Walren fleet began to move towards the planet. On arrival the Walren navy deployed all of its bomber squadrons to soften up any surface targets deemed necessary. While 5 squadrons finished off the remaining Kadar ships in orbit... however all was not to plan as one Kadar destroyer was able to ram a Walren battle cruiser which sent it into a massive fall to the planet's surface. While the bombing was taking place, other ships of the fleet began orbital bombardment of fortifications and supplies... this lasted almost 3 months galactic standard. Just as the preemptive bombardment stopped, drop pods and troop landers began to fall towards the planet... 30 regiments were deployed within a week and the Kadar were slowly being pushed back... in the north the 145th Nyxian Night terrors fought in the capital city... and in the south the 7th Kai Headhunters Fought through the tunnels and trenches of the Gur'la mountain range... even though the Walren forces seemed to be winning... casualties were climbing and advanced were slowing... eventually the Kadar gained the upper hand... they managed to rout the 564th Vadrossian Armoured "the Governors own", off of the planet. But after 7 galactic standard Years of attrition the planet fell to the Walren and the population (those that are loyal) was reintegrated Into the empire.

The Conflict

Conditions

The conditions during the war for Armatos were (as usual for Walren wars) quite awful for the men on the ground. ambushes and bunkers lined the mountains and ravines of the planet. Millions of Veteran Kadar Soldiers garrisoned the world, guarding only key locations and forcing a series of hard sieges where Imperial troops had much difficulty in digging Siege works in the hard stone. additionally even if the Imperial troops could take cover from the heavy Enemy artillery, they still had to contend with the sharp stone shrapnel that flew in every direction when a shell landed. Armatos is notoriously for having incredibly bad weather ranging from violent thunderstorms to freezing blizzards even just days apart.

The Engagement

"GET DOWN!" Screamed, seargent Vosh as he flung his body behind a large Boulder. Orange plasma bolts pinged off of every surface around the isolated squad. The sounds of gunfire echoed through the crags and cliffs of the ravine they had entered as tens of armoured Kadar soldiers let loose with their rifles. One walren soldier had already been killed in the initial Barrage, Korvin was his name. His shirtless body laid, riddled with holes not 10 feet from cover. As the fire intensified, the walren soldiers frantically searched for targets among the rocks and boulders above but few could be seen. Garad Koana huddled nervously between two rocks, his rifle clenched in his gloved hands. His drab uniform was tattered and dust covered aswell ad his tattooed flesh. He looked left and right for enemy soldiers but saw none, Enemy rounds impacting all around him. The sounds of battle drown out any thoughts other than that of fear as he heard the screams of Walren dying every few seconds. After a moment of collection he stood up from his cover and managed to spot a Kadar soldier behind a rock about 60 yards from him. He aimed his rifle and let loose a hail of purple plasma at the enemy soldier. The Kadars armoured body dropped to the ground in a haze of red. Garad looked around and could see the bodies of at least 10 walren soldiers, riddled with holes and laying in pools of their own blue blood. He noticed Harvin Urka, the medic, laying across the body of another Walren. Urkas leg was blown clean off by a Kadar Slug or Grenade he assumed. His thoughts were interrupted by an orange plasma slug impacting his rifle and sending him to the ground. He lay on the cold stones for a moment, still reveling in the shock of the impact. He then regained some what of his composure and drew is machete from its sheath and started up the cliff face nearest. Once he reached the top he could see at least 5 Kadar laying prone on various edges of the cliff, firing down at what was left of his squad. Garad began to slowly crawl towards the Kadar soldiers when he felt an impact and sharp pain in his side. When he rolled over to examine it he could see blue fluid pouring out of the wound. Garad began to panic, "he didn't want to die, he was only just an adult" he thought frantically as he began to hyperventilate. Tears rolled down the young Walrens face as his vision began to grey and he had to accept the reality of death. He tried to move but his limbs no longer responded as his mind faded in to dark nothingness... in his last moments he hadn't thought of his mother and father, his sister or his young wife back on Tangatua. He thought only of fear of the unknown. What was going to happen to him, what was death like, where would his mind go, would they find his body... did his death matter... he would never know.
