Half-Elf
A stranger walked into the tavern, grabbing the attention of the entire establishment. They didn't say a word, looking around before they walked over to the bar. Taking a sit and pulling off their hood, quite a few patrons saw the slightly pointed ears and immediately recognized him as a Half-Elf. People around him visibly relaxed and one of the Elven patrons walked over and sat down next to him, striking up a conversation. While not many could understand the Elven language, it was easier to tell the Elf's protective and scolding tone to the Half-elf.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Just like their ancestors, Half-Elves have the ability to see in the dark in shades of grey. They also have the ability to shrug off magical effects such as charmed and being put to sleep thanks to the fey blood within them.
Civilization and Culture
History
From the moment the Elves landed on Avestra, they experienced so many new things in their exile. One of these was the realization they could have children with non-Elven races. From unions with non-Elves came the Half-Elves. These were children where Elven and Fey blood dominated the majority of their ancestry, granting them extended life and the ability to shrug off some magical effects.
While the Half-Elves have never been a major part of history to get their own section, they have served as the backbone for the rise of others. Ambassadors of the Crystalian Empire are often Half-Elves, recognizing them as citizens of the Aerin Valley even if they aren't full blooded humans. Dwarves of Edrinia's Spine have called upon Half-Elves to help them make contact with other clans that are hostile towards them, banking on their shared lineage of both Dwarf and Elf. Even the Arachni of Alus have looked to Half-Elves that share Arachni blood as they frighten people less than the Spiderfolk.
Even in the face of the Elders, Half-Elves were fighting alongside their Elven and non-Elven kin, their blood spilt and their minds ravaged nonetheless. Though unsung, the Half-Elves who gave their lives in defense of Avestra are remembered through the legacy of the Half-Elves that still remain.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Elves see Half-Elves as an interesting spin off of their own people. Some see them as a deformed version of an elf, unable to reincarnate like they can and cursed with the permanence of death. Others view their condition as a gift that they can achieve a final rest and not endlessly reincarnate like their Elven ancestors do. Whatever the case, Elves are quite protective over these younger Elven-kin.
