There is often more to an island that what is shown on the surface. Some islands are the tip of a vast underground network of caverns that hide away an unseen world. Such a place exists underneath the surface Visus Island, and the citizens of Centrum call it the Tenebris Caves. It is rumored that an underground town exists somewhere in the depths of this cave network, referred to as Cariosus, though the inhabitants of this hidden town have so far been secretive and illusive. These rumored inhabitants are referred to as The Hidden by Centrum citizens. It should be noted that the underground is usually the refuge of dark creatures where the surface dweller is their prey- or so the tales go.

Forbidden

The caves are forbidden to all save for those who have acquired the written permission from the Director's Council. This policy was put into effect in 1270AGC due to a number of unexplained disappearances. Investigations into the disappearances have yielded a variety of causes that point to the caves becoming unusually dangerous. Between this and the mist from the Viridi Woods some citizens have expressed concerns over the settlement's long-term survival. All inquiries have been assured that the city will withstand its present trials.

Mining

Dangers of underground caverns notwithstanding, Centrum actively mines parts of the cave for resources. All mining expeditions must be approved by the Director's Council before venturing into the mines. Certain parts of the caves are restricted due to one factor or anotherL such as a cave in or a discovered monster.

Ancient Ruins

Some believe that the Ancient Order may have had some kind of settlement on Visus, but its existence has yet to be confirmed. It is suspected that the ancients had a great settlement on this island due to its advantageous position relative to the rest of the continent. However, it seems most of this settlement has been lost to the ravages of the The Great Collapse. Few remains have been found on the surface of Visus Island. Many believe that if there's more ruins to be found it surely lies deep within the Tenebris Caves.
