Occulus Sea

I like to sit here on the coast enjoying the pleasant breeze and the sounds of soft waves.
— Marda Seafoot, Fisherman
The inner sea of the Quassus Continent. Occulus is possibly the largest inland sea in Awldor, and as it is the central feature of the continent it is utilized heavily for trade and travel. The hurricanes and cyclones of the oceans surrounding the continent rarely make their way into the inland sea. Other kinds of storms- especially Magic Storms- are a more common danger to sailors.   Ports along the inner shores of the continent as well as several undersea towns have created a vast and active trade network. At the center of this network is Visus Island, the location of the Free City of Centrum which is considered the central nexus of this trade network. The city has continued to exploit this position over the years to gather great quantities of wealth.

Geography

The depth of the sea floor of the Occulus Sea is comparatively shallow to the oceans exterior of the continent. The water of the Occulus Sea is comparatively fresh compared to the salty oceans. There is a deep sea canyon that forms a ring surrounding Visus Island according to the underwater peoples. It is said that the canyons are deep enough to hide slumbering horrors.

Sure, you can find plenty of treasure on the continent. There's plenty to be found in the sea too.
— Sander Sanders, Fisherman

Ancient Ruins

Ancient Ruins can be found almost anywhere. One of the most notable The Ancient Order locations within the Occulus Sea is the ruined city commonly called Submerso. The tallest metal pillars of the once large city are visible above the water line. There is a debate as to what the city was. Was it an inland settlement that fell into the sea? Or was it always an underwater settlement? Further exploration of the ruins might yield an answer if one dares to brave its dangers.   Additionally, Ruin Islets can be found scattered throughout the shallows of the Occulus Sea. These islets are piles of ruins from now unknowable sources from elsewhere in the world. Some of these islets contain valuable treasure, unstable wild magics (making them traps), or both.

Note(s) from the Archivists:   We Archivists in our grand library have a great view of the Occulus Sea. An azure sight all around Centrum. How fitting is it that our guild, intent on knowing everything, are situated in the center of a great blue eye. - Archivist Taenya   Personally, I find it a little creepy. - Archivist Edward   Why does it creep you out? - Archivist Taenya   Giant eyes creep me out, okay? - Archivist Edward   I feel like that irrational fear will get you into trouble in this world. - Archivist Taenya   It has. - Archivist Edward.
