Dracone Ironara

Etymology

Dracone Ironara means 'Dragons from Metal', due to their appearance being creatures seemingly crafted from metal. 'Iron' in the Old Tongue simply meant metal. As more metals were discovered the term 'iron' moved to just the first metal discovered.

Subspecies

There are four main subspecies of Dracone Ironara. They are Gold, Silver, Copper and Bronze. There are others, though they are fewer in number. There are seemingly fewer variations in subspecies for Dracone Ironara than their evil counterparts, the

Dracone Terrara

(Dragons from the Land), whose richer colouring tends to favour an aspect of their preferred surroundings. For instance, the Black Dragon tends to make its home in dark, swampy or corrupted areas. The Ironarae, however, have a slightly looser natural ability to blend in. Silvers do lean towards icy regions, the more earthy metals finding homes in stony or arid places but they, in general, are less constricted to these associations. This is partially due to their preference to integrate with society rather than their need to develop power over a domain.

Traits

All dragons are said to have descended from the Primal Dragons that helped forge the world in the earliest days. The Dracone Ironara are the ones who accepted the influence of the gods, giving them their radiant appearance. They reflect the Light of the world. Dracone Ironara are generally benevolent creatures, who will come to aid if called upon. Some subspecies have more of a desire to seek out evil without being asked first than others, but all will do the right thing when asked, for the most part.   Dracone Ironara do have lairs. However, they are known to leave them for long periods of time. They do seem to be present when sought out for the sake of aiding society, though, as if there is some divine sense that calls them back when required.   It is rumoured, though never proved or witnessed, that dragons, in general, possess the means to transform into humanoid form if they so wish and this might be the reason for their occasional long abscences from mortal eyes.
