Geography

The majority of the land is covered in boreal forest, with stretches of tundra. The Calastine Range cuts through the middle, making travel between Sarathorm and Taram very difficult. In fact, travel from anywhere to Sarathorm is long and tedious, and so travel by ship is highly recommended. There are apparantly passages through the Calastine Range for travel that are significantly quicker than overland travel, but these all present their own hazards. Take caution, and more importantly, an expert guide.
Other noteworthy features are the Blood of the Tribes lake, which freezes over in the cold months

Fauna & Flora

In the region south and west of the Calastine Range, birch, aspen and cherry trees dominate the landscape. To the north of the range, spruce, juniper, yew and pine trees are most common. In the denser parts of the forests, beech fern hugs the legs of those walking through. Scaly male fern is the most common fern outside of those dense forest areas. Underneath that, mosses can be found in various locations. One can frequently find moss being used either as a bandage or soil fertilizer in Liramont; in Sarathorm, you might even find moss used as an ingredient!

Along the northern coastline, you might spot otters, seals, dolphins, or maybe even a whale. Many birds hunt here as well, nesting either in some nearby trees or flying back to the mountains. However, don't let your eyes stray too far; wild cats also hunt throughout the Frozen Reaches. They are likely tracking down the local deer, but when desperate they have been known to attack lonely adventurers. Otherwise, weasels, squirrels, rabbits, and your other classic rodents can form a snack for these cats. Of course, while you may hunt wild cats (with a license), it is illegal to attack catfolk, except in self-defense. No humanoid bears exist in the area though, so unless you encounter a druid in your travels, you are welcome to freely hunt bears.

Tourism

Despite its harsh environment, this area receives a steady stream of tourism. The Academies of Taram attract many of those seeking to learn magical arts. The kitchens in Sarathorm produce exotic foods that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. And for those seeking a new home, Liramont has the cheapest house prices of Umoris; there are also numerous castles in the area that those with a brave soul could attempt to claim.
