Companions of The Sea

The Companions of the Sea are a trading company based in the Iron Dominion though they have contracts with Readia, Medraria, and Gilon as well. Their only motivation is profit, and does whatever is necessary to gather wealth. Under the leadership of Placus Tasius, they will trade in anything that turns a profit. With wealth being their primary motivator, there is nothing they won't trade in and no measure they won't take to make sure their cargo is delivered. Their fleet consists mostly of merchant ships and cogs, but they do maintain a small number of warships to protect their valuable cargo. They also have a large contingent of mercenaries to maintain their grip. These forces are formidable in their own right. Still, since they brought a great number of riches to the nobles and notables of the Nations of the Highborn, the trading company could also count on the protection of those nations as well, especially the Iron Dominion. The Companions of the Sea are a private company, but their charter allows them great political power in Ilvortia. With the backing of the Iron Dominion and other nations, the company has a great amount of leeway when it comes to dealing with the citizens and people of the continent. They operate a number of businesses in the many cities on the continent but also operate mines and plantations in which the workforce isn't treated so kindly. Responsible for a number of atrocities on Ilvortia, they have earned the ire of the Bronze Ravens, who frequently attack their ships and businesses. Since their ships carry highly valuable cargo, they are also the primary targets of the Black Rain Confederacy. However, sometimes they can find a more profitable partnership with some of its more greedy members.
