Kingdom of Galvinor
Current Month: Julwar 2nd: 209, The Fifth Age
The history of Galvinor is one of both military conflict, and undead purges. a landlocked nation, it has never been wealthy, but they make up for this with national zeal.
History
The peoples of Galvinor are descended from the Landisians, who were themselves originally the Vaskerry tribe of Lydes that conquered the Drow princedom of Anon Landylon. Like their Vladian rivals, they found their old lands to be too unbearable for their liking, and settled south to a land closer to their preferred climate.
Even during the Fourth Age when they were the Landisians and the Vladians were the Terians, there has been conflict between these two peoples. This is partly due to possessing a shared border, but also due to their views on the undead. The Galvinorians despise the undead, while the Vladians revered them and even used them for their armies. During a purge of the Dead Lands by the Galvinorians and the Burundians, Vladek, the Vladians city-state at the time, was conquered by Galvinor, until its liberation years later. This has only reinforced the bitterness these people always possessed, and have waged wars against each other to this day.
Culture
Galvinorians are usually short in stature and of rather pale complexion, usually with dark hair. They are also, outwardly at least, a very reserved people. Their love of order and control is best illustrated by the perfect grid of their capital of Wladislaw's streets, ignoring even hills and, where possible, waterways.
It is said that when Galvinorian reserve breaks, it can do so to a surprising degree. A good example is during Lazare Day. During this celebration, all social barriers fall, and any man may kiss any woman, and any woman may kiss any man; nobles and commoners alike can be seen in the streets in various states of undress. After its over, life proceeds as if nothing had occurred.
Military
Galvinor has always possessed a martial mentality, this is due to their Vaskerry heritage. Their shield walls and infantry are told to be near unbreakable, and their cavalry, which has a high degree of tamed Demigryph mounts, has a devastating charge. Where the Galvinorians especially shine is when they fight the undead. Located next to the Dead Lands, a region filled with uncountable undead, All their soldiers are trained in such conflicts, possessing a large amount of silvered weaponry. When such weapons aren't available, they will dip their swords and arrows in salt or holy water. Galvinor has no wet navy due to being a landlocked nation. However, they have a vast sky navy of airships and griffon riders. In addition, Galvinor is home to one of the Blood Hunting orders, the Exerticius Spiritus, and employ their services often. As a consiquence to their ancestors actions, Galvinor finds itself to be raided often by the Drow Below, and thus are proficient in fighting forces from the Ways.
