VISTANI

A travelling people, who are allowed to come and go from the Domain of Dread, Barovia, as they please. They travel from world to world and, according to some, they lure others into Strahd's realm.
STRAHD VON ZAROVICH allows them to travel freely (everyone else is a prisoner in his realm) for several reasons:

• he admires their lust for life
• he believes them to be of use to him
• he owes them an ancient debt

Some Vistani claim to own potions which allow the drinker to leave Strahd's domain. This is false, but the sellers are happy to charge a princely sum to those who fall for this trick.
