Duke Baderich Omundsson (a.k.a. Baderich the Unready)

Duke Baderich of Oestmark is the ruler of the northeastern plains of Barovia. He rules from the capital of Omundstead. After losing the Moraulden war of independence to King Alerik, his detractors have given him the title "Baderich the Unready". Though some place the blame for the defeat squarely on the Duke's shoulders, the popular understanding among nobles and commoners alike is that there was simply no way for the Duchy to maintain control over its colonies; they had grown too powerful too quickly by exploiting the resource rich region of Aerelith.
