The Slumbering Mountains

Geography

The slumbering mountains are a mountain range running north/south across the western third of Barovia. It defines the eastern border of The Kingdom of the Bleakmen and the western borders of Moraulden and The Asherai Sultanate. There is only one known passage from east to west, between the border settlements of Edwin's Pass and Marapo, belonging to The Kingdom of the Bleakmen and The Asherai Sultanate, respectively.

The legend goes that the massive spires of granite comprising the peaks are actually bones of giants who rivaled the gods many eons ago. It is said among the hillfolk that these titans would rise again to reclaim their former glory and cast the gods down from the very heavens at the end of days. Thus the name "The Slumbering Mountains".  This is, of course, nothing more than children's tales.
