Salty Bar Fights and Dark Preparations and Investigations: Session 9, Scallywags: The Grey Coasts
General Summary
The group starts on the 11th of Light, Second Moradin's of the year 698. Here, they are split, and we follow Brimstone through a simple morning of breakfast and memory, for his drunken antics leave him little memory and only a not of location: Meet me at the Salty Siren. He stops at a simple tavern for bread and salted pork, and as he eats he has memory of being someone in the eastern city, the District of Ne. There he meets Okeanos Grevillea, Human Noble of Ne.
He is waylaid by their guards and a duel, but walks away at the behest of the noble's older sister or aunt. Back to the present, this morning, the red dragonborn finishes his meat and bread, and as he turns to view a nearby tree, the light that purses through reminds him of another sight of the drunken night before.
He sees himself walking through the trees just south of Feon, near the river of the same namesake. He then engages with a ball of lightning, something seeking his soul. He struggles with it until he is able to summon his own fire breath to destroy the energized soul, this ball of lightning. Lastly, as the red dragoborn full awakes and turns himself to the Salty Siren, he has a memory enter his mind as that of a chuckle, and that of a golden pseudodragon falling to sleep next to him after its own enjoyment at Brimstone's current, drunken predicament.
As the Captain of the Horizon's Call enters into the provocative and dingy Salty Siren, he finds Ilknar coming down the stairs from nearly two days straight of enjoying the Siren's songs and services. They both sit at the bar, and Brimstone soon notices about four crews also sit amongst the entertainment of the call. Then the same golden tiny, dragonkin flies through the door, comes to the bar and is given wine. They do not seem to be able to speak, but completely understood. Brimstone sees this as a sign that this dragon has been waiting for many weeks for the Captain to arrive at Feon, if not months.
Throughout the city, the rest of the crew gets lost in various deeds, but the Scallywags focus upon a few for this day: Aikhon settles with the Knights of Ne, paying an additional 100gp to keep the Call here in Feon for upwards of 20days. Morever, the Knight he deals with, a younger fellow fully adorned in plate steal, is invited to the meeting later in the evening (something for next session). Skiff goes to the Animal Walk, and the Lizards Store he finds Red Sow to help inebriate a foe. Rognur begins research upon Cortex, the Call and its Core, and the tentacle he cut from the Cortex two days before. He learns of alien natures and resistances to elementals. Later in the afternoon, also, after Skiff returns from alcohol shopping, Zaak a Banneret of Ne, brings word that the Knights are offering 5sp to 5gp for each head of undead brought in slain.
We return to the Salty Siren, and Captain Brimstone converses with the golden dragonkin on paper, learning his sister is searching for him, and that she is working for the King, hopefully, the dragonkin thinks, for a larger aim beyond both he and his old friend Brimstone can even begin to comprehend. Simultaneously, Ilknar walks over to trollkin he had already pandered once at the bar, for they had moved to a table all their own. He spits on the head of one, and soon a brawl breaks out between them. Keeth, the twins of the the Siren, attempt to aid Brimstone in calming the crowd, but the orcs present here seem to recognize Brimstone and his crew from taking the tentacled ship from them. They instigate the fight more with Ilknar, and soon others join in the fight too, grappling over and about tables, and then eventually an orc is thrown from a window, others entangled and pinned to the ground. The golden dragonkin warns Brimstone he should leave the tavern, as these orcs would be more than willing to sell the dragonborn to the highest bidder, as Faces of the King search for those with dragon blood these last few years. Brimstone attempts to calm the situation, but Ilknar seems only willing to give in after a troll and orc fall to his rage, but once they leave, and moments throughout the combat, Carmen a dancer and others take advantage, as well as overhear two captains discuss a means to take from the Call what does truly belong to the Call: the plunder from the tentacled ship and beyond.
After this combat, we meet back up with Aikhon, who with E'krae's aid is able to meet with Okeanos Grevillea, Human Noble of Ne , who believes Aikhon is Brimstone and indeed captain of a great ship he can use to smuggle new trade.
Now the group waits for the meeting with E'krae, to split new rewards and reconvene for what comes next.
