Elf

The Elves of Edath are an elegant and enigmatic race, dwelling primarily in the breathtaking mountains to the south of the continent. Their capital city, Hamm'athera, also known as Elfholme among humans, stands as a magnificent forest city, nestled within the serene beauty of nature. Elves are known for their grace, ethereal beauty, and deep connection with the natural world.   Elves in Edath often exhibit a chaotic good alignment, embodying a sense of freedom, compassion, and a desire to do what is right. While they may be initially reserved and aloof toward other races, Elves possess an open-mindedness that allows them to observe and judge others based on their actions and character. They believe in the potential for friendship and alliances, allowing individuals from other races to prove themselves worthy of their trust and camaraderie.   One unique aspect of Elven reproduction is their ability to mate with humans, resulting in the birth of half-elves. In current days, half-elves have achieved equal rights and standing within Elfholme, mirroring the acceptance and integration of diverse heritages. However, this was not always the case, and the history of half-elves within the Elven society can be a source of conflict and intrigue in the world of Edath.  

Statistics

 
  • +2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution.
  • Medium: As Medium creatures, elves have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
  • Elf base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Immunity to magic sleep effects, and a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells or effects.
  • Low-Light Vision: An elf can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
  • Weapon Proficiency: Elves receive the Martial Weapon Proficiency feats for the longsword, rapier, longbow (including composite longbow), and shortbow (including composite shortbow) as bonus feats.
  • +2 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks. An elf who merely passes within 5 feet of a secret or concealed door is entitled to a Search check to notice it as if she were actively looking for it.
  • Automatic Languages: Common and Elven. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Gnoll, Gnome, Goblin, Orc, and Sylvan.
Favored Class: Wizard. A multiclass elf’s wizard class does not count when determining whether she takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing.

Alignment

Elves in Edath tend to lean towards a chaotic good alignment, embracing personal freedom and the pursuit of what they believe to be right and just. However, individual Elves may deviate from this general trend, exhibiting different alignments based on their personal beliefs, experiences, and cultural influences.   Please note that the above description and attributes adhere to the Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 ruleset. Customization and house rules can be implemented by the Dungeon Master to align with the specific campaign and setting in Edath.

Anatomy

In the world of Edath, Elves possess an extended lifespan, with an average life expectancy that approaches nearly 600 years. This longevity allows them to witness and participate in the unfolding events of their realm for centuries, gaining immense knowledge and experiences throughout their lives.   Elves have a slender and graceful physique, with males averaging around 5 feet in height and weighing approximately 105 pounds. Females share a similar height of 5 feet but typically weigh slightly lighter at around 100 pounds. Their lean frames and lithe movements reflect their natural agility and dexterity.   It's important to note that these physical descriptions represent general averages and are subject to individual variation based on genetics, lifestyle, and cultural influences. Elves may have unique features and characteristics that distinguish them within the realm of Edath.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Elven species possess a unique ability to interbreed with each other and with other races, leading to diverse offspring. When Elves of different subraces mate, there is an equal chance for the child to inherit the traits of either parent's subrace. However, when an Elf mates with a Drow, a dark and subterranean race of Elves, the likelihood of producing a Drow offspring is increased. The influence of Drow heritage in the bloodline amplifies the chances of the child being born as a Drow, with their distinct physical characteristics and cultural inclinations.   When an Elf mates with a human, the result is always a half-elf. The combination of Elven and human heritage creates individuals who possess traits from both races, combining the grace and longevity of Elves with the versatility and adaptability of humans.   Interestingly, when a half-elf and an Elf unite, the resulting offspring is always a full-blooded Elf. The Elven heritage takes precedence in such unions, ensuring the continuation of the Elven lineage.   These unique reproductive dynamics add depth and complexity to the racial interactions and bloodlines within the world of Edath. They provide opportunities for rich storytelling, cultural conflicts, and the exploration of the relationships between different races.

Growth Rate & Stages

In the world of Edath, Elves experience a unique progression of life stages that differs from other races. Elves reach adulthood at the age of 110, a much later stage compared to other humanoid species. This prolonged youth allows them to take their time in acquiring knowledge, skills, and wisdom before fully embracing the responsibilities of adulthood.   From the age of 175 to 263, Elves enter their middle age. During this phase, they have amassed centuries of experiences and honed their abilities. Middle-aged Elves are often sought after as scholars, advisors, and keepers of ancient lore. Their perspective expands beyond the immediacy of mortal concerns, enabling them to approach situations with a long-term view and a deep understanding of the consequences of actions.   By the age of 263, Elves are considered elderly. However, unlike other races, Elves do not exhibit visible signs of physical aging such as wrinkles or greying hair. Instead, they become more ethereal and radiant in their appearance, reflecting the profound connection they have with the natural world and the magical energies that flow through their veins.   Elves' twilight years begin around 350, where they may gradually withdraw from active participation in worldly affairs. They often devote themselves to the pursuit of higher knowledge, spiritual growth, and the preservation of Elven traditions. These Elders are revered for their accumulated wisdom, and their insights are sought after by the younger generations.   The Elves' ability to perceive the world in centuries and their ethereal transformation as they age highlight their unique nature and perspective within the realm of Edath. It sets them apart from the shorter-lived races and underscores their enduring connection to the magical forces and timeless aspects of their existence.
