House Leviathan

The Leviathan family was founded by a wealthy warrior merchant named Marlin Leviathan in 132 BCY. Their castle, Stormwatch Keep, was strategically situated in the bustling port city of Driftwood. This location allowed them to oversee and control the flow of goods and resources coming into the kingdom, as well as maintain a formidable defense against potential seaborne threats. Under Marlin's leadership, the Leviathan family rapidly ascended to become one of the most wealthy and well-respected, if not feared, kingdoms of Valtera. Marlin was a shrewd and ruthless businessman, known for his uncompromising tactics and strategic alliances. His wealth allowed him to build a powerful navy and a well-trained army, which he used to protect his interests and expand his influence. The Leviathan family's dominance continued until the Sundering of Crowns in 134 CY, a cataclysmic event that reshaped the political landscape of Valtera and saw the fall of many noble houses.   In the aftermath of the Sundering of Crowns, the Leviathan family, now under the direction of Laudemere Leviathan, adapted to the changing times. Laudamere, inheriting his ancestor's business acumen and martial prowess, refocused the family's efforts on mastering trade, travel, and commerce. They leveraged their vast fleet and the strategic position of Driftwood to become the unrivaled masters of maritime trade routes.   Laudamere's innovations and reforms brought a new era of prosperity to the Leviathan family. He established exclusive trading contracts and developed advanced navigational techniques, making Driftwood a vital hub for merchants from across Valtera and beyond. The Leviathan family amassed a considerable amount of wealth, further solidifying their power and influence.   Their control over the Eastern Vastness, a treacherous expanse of sea and land that few dared to traverse, became absolute. The only way to safely navigate this region was through the services provided by the Leviathan family, who demanded high fees and strict adherence to their terms. This monopoly was enforced by the written permission of The Bastion of Ascension, a powerful and enigmatic institution that governed the mystical and arcane aspects of Valtera. The Leviathan family's close ties with The Bastion ensured that their dominance remained unchallenged, as they continued to amass wealth and power through their unrivaled control of trade and travel.
