Golden Brown's heroin based powers are particularly unusual as compared to his fellow Drug Lords, manifesting fairly plainly as enhanced physicality, but also the ability to "heal" himself and others (though the wounds don't actually disappear and will begin to hinder the person again after an hour or if he loses consciousness), and finally the ability to summon Goldhoof; a large, golden stallion, into reality from the tattoo on his chest.

As a result of his addiction, Golden Brown is highly unstable and unpredictable. He can go from being friendly and charming to violent and aggressive in a matter of seconds. He is prone to mood swings and is easily agitated, which can make him a dangerous opponent.
Despite his villainous tendencies, Golden Brown is not a happy or fulfilled person. He is plagued by feelings of guilt and shame about his addiction, and he often feels like he is trapped in a cycle of despair. His addiction has consumed his life and has left him feeling lost and alone.
When an experimental drug trial went awry, Gary Hennessy and several other addicts attending rehab at Blackmoore Hospital were left with both superpowers and a never ending high, their friend, Billy Crystal, convinced them that the experiment was a cover for something more sinister and so, they decided to escape and press the Mayor for answers about their new status.
