Criminal Activity
The various members of the B-Team are called in by Amelia Abel because a group of drug-themed supervillains has covered Bathala City Hall in a dome of marijuana and taken the people inside hostage!
At about half past one in the afternoon, the various members of the B-team except Mercy (who was, no doubt, unable to decipher the ringing object in his pocket) receive a call from the Century Group agent Amelia Abel, telling them that City Hall has been taken over by supervillains and encased in a 50ft tall dome of foliage, with the Mayor and several other citizens taken hostage. The team each make their way to the scene with Rue arriving first and quickly realising that the dome is made entirely of marijuana. Agent Abel meets them at the scene and quickly brings them up to speed on the situation; that five supervillains were seen entering the town hall grounds before the dome went up and that there have yet to be any demands made from inside. Emma, Frank and Harmony soon show up, and Emma decides to try using magic to speak directly with the plants that form the dome. After a short conversation with a particularly helpful marijuana leaf, she's told that the "madam" will be there to speak with her momentarily. Unfortunately, before she realises what's happening, a vine wraps around Emma and pulls her into the dome, spitting her out on the other side in front of two supervillains; Mary-Jane and Golden Brown, while creatures made of vines begin to emerge from the dome. The team is eventually able to break into the dome and knock out Mary-Jane, which is quickly reversed by Golden Brown. At that point, of course, Frank decides that, in lieu of a weapon, he would use the bound villainess to beat her compatriot's face in, knocking her back out. Golden Brown is able to punch Frank once, rendering him unconscious before himself being incapacitated by Rue. Following that, the team makes their way towards the main building and Rue is able to see that. while there are several people inside the main foyer, only one seems to be in any way coherent, and Frank is quickly asked to yank him out the door. It is at this point that the team meets Charlie the Freelance Henchman, their biggest fan! He explains that he was hired mainly to keep an eye on White Lines' men and he's convinced by Emma to give them useful information in exchange for the four of them signing his homemade B-team t-shirt. He tells them that, while White Lines' men are useless, Billy Crystal had actually put up all his life savings to hire a squad of mercenaries to guard the hostages. Finally, in order to preserve Charlie's rating on Thugwork (the freelancing site for henchmen), Frank decides to knock him out with a flick to the forehead which, given Frank's super strength, flings the henchman through the front door and alerts the nearby addled goons who call for their boss. Within a moment, White Lines leaps down from the next floor overhang, landing with a hideous crunch as the naked supervillain lands face-first on the marble floor. He's quickly followed out by Lucy in the Sky who directs the minions in trying to capture the team. While Lucy uses her LSD powered illusions to disorient the team, White Lines eventually regains consciousness and uses his cocaine cloud to enhance his men, turning them into bestial fighters. The team is almost overrun, but they soon manage to incapacitate both villains and move further into the building, where throwing White Lines through the door is enough to scare off many of Billy's hired mercenaries, before they move on to the leader. Having looked through the door again with her X-ray vision, Rue is able to telekinetically throw the table the mercenary leader is sat on into the ceiling, severely injuring him. As the team burst in, he manages to crawl up the City Hall's historian who had been tied to a chair and threatened him with his gun. In a moment of quick-thinking, Harmony is able to jam his gun by filling it with material, while Frank hurls a ball made from some nearby metal, knocking him out and saving the historian. After freeing the hostages, the team makes their way upstairs towards the Mayor's office to confront Billy Crystal. He's hiding behind the Mayor and has her hooked up to an IV, threatening to inject her with a lethal dose of Methamphetamine if his demands are met. Unfortunately for him, Rue is able to subtly remove the IV from the Mayor's arm and Emma is able to pull a spell out of the aether to put him to sleep, probably for the first time in weeks. Once the Mayor is free, the team ask what he was after and she explains that he was trying to use her access to city business filings to find out who financed the drug trial that he and his supervillain friends had been a part of back at Blackmoore Hospital, since he was sure that it was one of the shadowy directors of the now-disbanded Schurk Industries, still pursuing their less than ethical research into superhuman abilities. Upon hearing about the possibility of human experimentation and the potential for continued activities after the disbandment of the company, both Rue and Harmony are incensed and begin to interrogate the Mayor. She tries to explain that the information they're asking for is confidential, but she gives them the phone number of Dr Indigo Upton, staff psychologist at Blackmoore, and sister of Blue. The team soon heads out, taking note of Charlie being escorted away on a stretcher, and Rue makes a point to request an audience with the now-captured supervillains. Agent Abel agrees but makes a point to stick around as they ask the supervillains about what they were trying to accomplish with the attack. Between Golden Brown, Mary-Jane and Lucy, she's able to ascertain that Billy had told them he had evidence of something shady going on at the hospital and that their current state, constantly stuck under the effects of their respective drugs, was not necessarily a simple accident. Rue asks for information about the person who gave them the drug and Lucy is able to give her a name; Amelie. The villains are soon carted off to the local jail to await processing and the team discusses their suspicions. Emma isn't convinced by the ravings of people not in their right minds and with no solid proof, but Rue and Allyson, both of whom have experience in being unwitting lab-rats, are less willing to brush this aside. Only time will tell if anything will come of this potentially suspicious series of events.
