Taidan
Taidan (pronounced TAY-dan) is the seat of Clan Tai, a small clan in the service of Clan Galvo. It is a ringfort on the northern edge of the island. Taidan is also the only place on Galvacon where Weldan is spoken instead of Galvaconian, a Talsticonian dialect.
History
Taidan was founded sometime during the 500's YC and was the center of the island's first (and so far, only) major conflict. Taidan was settled by 100 runaway slaves from the Ivory Isles that managed to successfully commandeer the slave ship that they were on. They managed to find Galvacon and landed on the island in order to find food. According to Clan Tai, the ship that they commandeered was struck by a bolt of lightning during a storm, which burned it beyond repair. This event forced the runaway slaves to stay on the island, where they started building new homes.
At the time, this part of the island was not well known to Clan Galvo and their vassals, who just considered it more wilderness. A Seridanian hunter managed to come across it however and reported his findings to Galvadan. Chief Galvo then sent a scouting party by boat to check the settlement out. The Taidanians, however, falsely assumed that the men were slavers sent to recapture them, and came into conflict with the Galvadanian scouts, forcing them back into their boats. This event caused the chief of Galvo to send another party to confront the Taidanians with orders to capture them and bring them to Galvadan. The party, which had much more advanced weapons and armor compared to the Taidanians, easily overpowered them after a short confrontation and took them back to Galvadan. The chief of Galvo decided to capitalize on these people and made a pact with them. The Taidanians would be able to return back to Taidan in return for their loyalty toward a new clan (Clan Tai) and toward Clan Galvo. This is considered the Taidan Pact.
