Core Rakai

The continent of Berkai, is separated into a variety of sections, one of these sections is know as Core Rakai. This is due to the fact that the bulk of the population of the Rakia Empire and Capital are found in this area. This core section is where the central conflicts of the house of man occured. The land was ravaged for a period of time due to inner conflict and external threats. With the aid of magic both arcane and divine, the Empire has returned the spirit of Azel to the land. The Rakai Core is a mix of agricultural and heavily forested areas. As the Empire has spread out from the shoreline northward, towns, cities, and roads connecting the various population centers have been constructed. With the rise of Mystaan as the second Emperor of the empire, the various dirts road connecting the cities and towns were improved via new taxes on internal trade. As the empire expands progressing in technology and size, so too will the area around the cities change. The large lakes in the north are being dammed and used for aqueducts to route water through the farmlands and to the capital itself. The infrastructure of the Rakain Core is miles ahead the vassals it oversees.

Geography

The Core Rakai Section is from the northern forests of Myramar to the shores outside the Rakai capital and the islands of Bestova to the Mountains of Rendar.
The area of the Core Rakai is about 168,000 sq miles.
The Central Valley of Rakai extends from the edge of the Forests of Myramar in the north to the provinces just outside Rakai proper.

• The central valley of Rakai is an area of lowlands within the central area of the Core Rakai.

• The Northern Forests of Myramar are similar in a nature to a Mesophytic Forest supporting a variety of tree types within the rolling hills of the highlands.

• The islands of Bestova out to the west of the capital exist in their own as a sheltered preserve for all sorts of creatures.The land there is especially fertile. Yet the tides around the islands make traversing the waters excessively dangerous. Those that are able to make it to the island do so via magic. Those that return describe the island as been a lush jungle filled to the brim with creatures from another age displaced from the realm of those existing.

Fauna & Flora

There are various regions within the Core Rakai. The 4 major regions are listed below.

• The central valley of Rakai is an area of lowlands within the central area of the Core Rakai. These lowlands are used for farmlands and cattle. Grown within the lowlands are a variety of vegetables, fruit and grain. The southern section of the Valley is used for growing apple, avocado, and citrus trees. Whereas the northern section of the valley is dominated by rolling fields of wheat, grain and corn. The central section of the valley is focused on nothing the area simply being given to ranchers and farmers that organized based on need. The central valley was the last area to become populated as it had the most lakes and rivers spread throughout. Thus it was not until Mystaan came to power that the central section of the valley was colonized and developed for the use of farming a variety of vegetables. Once the infrastructure was in place the valley doubled in development, the farmlands in the area doubled in size as the Rakai government started water sharing project throughout the area.

• The Northern Forests of Myramar are similar in a nature to a Mesophytic Forest supporting a variety of tree types within the rolling hills of the highlands.This area is set aside as a supply of lumber for the future. The woods are being repopulated to make up for the destruction wrought throughout time within the Core of Rakai. The forest is home to a variety of animals, to include deer, bears, raccoons, elk, moose, wolves etc. In addition to wildlife there is a variety of elven people that prefer the woods as to the culture of the civilized lands. As part of an agreement the Empire of Rakai has place protections for these people.

• The islands of Bestova out to the west of the capital exist in their own as a sheltered preserve for all sorts of creatures.The land there is especially fertile. Yet the tides around the islands make traversing the waters excessively dangerous. Those that are able to make it to the island do so via magic. Those that return describe the island as been a lush jungle filled to the brim with creatures from another age displaced from the realm of those existing.

• The Mountains of Rendar to the east are snowcapped and rather barren. There are some alpine tree towards the peaks of the mountains but for the most part the mountains lack sufficient soil conditions to properly sustain trees and most larger forms of vegetation.

Natural Resources

There are various regions within the Core Rakai. The 4 major regions are listed below.

• The Central valley as described above is focused on the agricultural market and has a wealth of water that it distributes throughout the Core Rakai.

• The Northern Forests are known for the quality wood but Mystaan the Emperor of the Empire has banned all woodworking projects from the Northern forest. He has stated publicly that this is to allow the elves of the region to repopulate the woods to ensure that future generations of Rakaian have lumber and the resources of the Great Myramar forest.

• Little is truly know of the Islands of Bestova. There are rumors that there are considerable amounts of precious minerals and other such resources but the cost of retreival is too high in terms of finance and life.

• The mountains of Rendar to the East are full of iron, gold, silver, and copper. The dwarves of the region have been mining the mountain range for years and have been consistent traders with the empire since the House of Man. The resources and plentiful they are kept secret so as to not prevent competitors.
