Kahemketi

This ring of black, volcanic mountains stand sentinel over the island of Vesium, protecting Bakoubona and Nzebari from interlopers who might have disturbed its reclusive Tabaxi population. From the sea, Kahemketi makes Vesium seem entirely hostile and inaccessible, hiding the rich rainforest from view. In fact, the mountain range makes accessing Nzebari nearly impossible from the ocean, requiring prospective traders to dock on the narrow beaches of a nearby islet, climb up a spire of rock whipped by ocean winds, and traverse a precarious natural stone bridge over nearly a half mile of shallow sea before meeting the generally unfriendly inhabitants of the island, who were rarely happy to see them. These days, one can simply take an airship.
