Themulhir Mountains

Home to the extensive underground province of the dwarves, the Themulhir Mountains cover a vast swath of central Adarinn. The highest mountains on the continent are at this range's southern end, including the glorious and imposing Mount Tylan, named for the war god whose home supposedly can be accessed from its peak. None who have climbed the mountain have yet been able to confirm this, but many of them claim that the ascent itself is enough of a battle to warrant the name.  Migratory birds and insects attempting to pass across Adarinn must either fly far enough northward to cross in the gentler Pripya province or else brave the heights for weeks on end. The permanent population of the mountains is composed of hardy creatures, both magical and mundane, adapted to the cold and the altitude. Its surface residents, mostly otherworldly fae peoples in the south and wood elves in the north, are equally sturdy, resigned to harsh winters in exchange for the beauty of spring in the mountains. Beneath the ground, a dwarven empire only loosely controlled by the Chatia Empire stretches for miles. The Themulhir Mountains are rich in mineral wealth, and the mountain dwarves have grown rich and powerful from mining and crafting.    Amusingly, "themulhir" is the dwarven word for mountains. Apparently when asked by encroaching humans and gnomes for the name of their home, the ancient dwarves of Themulhir simply replied "mountains?" and everyone has been redundantly referring to the range ever since.
