Alfheim Alfar

Alfheim is the home of the Alfar and it has been their world for thousands of years beyond memory. Yet, they have only colonised parts of this world, the rest being a mass of forested wilderness.

Kit & Makeup

As well as the information presented here there is a pinterest board directly dedicated to Lloss Alfar upon Alfheim, created by refs, crew and players for inspiration purposes: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pixnoir87/alfheim-beyond-rangnarok/lloss-alfar/

Clothing:

Each type of Alfar have colour preferences that go back long before the inception of Provenance, these colours also now have associations with their faith.

The Lloss:

The Lloss Alfar are all part of the high-born Families residing in Tallallamé. They dress in bright, lavish colours and may be anything from flowing robes to practical wear, depending on their position in society.

Vighta:

The Vighta, most of whom live in the farmlands and control the food production of the realm, dress in light colours. These can be either hard wearing tunics and trousers or loose and flowing robes and dresses, allowing for movement.

Dokkar:

The Dokkar, most of whom live on the coasts and control the ship trade of the realm, dress in dark colours. These tend to be hard wearing clothing, able to withstand the winds and waters of the oceans.

Facial Markings:

All Alfar wear markings upon their faces. These are in swirl patterns and can be basic or incredibly intricate. There are Alfar who make their living out of painting these patterns on others in semi-permanent ink. Patterns tend to use the colour scheme of the Alfar’s clothing or complementing colours. Patterns can have family or occupation associations or be simply personal. In Lloss Alfar high society, they are on a par with designer clothing, and become fashion trends that last for years, or just a single season.

Attitudes

To Alfar, the fact that thousands of Humans and Jotunborn were displaced from their homes was of little consequence. They did not march to war in Ragnarok. It then took Frey from them, which they see as their abandonment. It was only by Freya's persuasion that they took in any refugees at all; though only Humans.

Most Alfar now regard Humans as part of their world, and treat them as they would any Alfar. This is especially prevalent in Dokkar and Vighta communities, where they live side by side without consequence. Amongst the Lloss Alfar, however, Humans are not so welcome, and a lot of the Lloss Families still shun them. They see them as a necessary presence, rather than a wanted one. Thankfully, the current Royal Heirs do not see Humans this way and tolerance is slowing growing as a result.

Jotunborn and Svartalfar are viewed with the same array of feelings, but perhaps for different reasons. The distrust of Svartalfar goes back beyond memory. Though cousins, they have always been opposites and Svart disdain for religion of any kind is suspicious to the Alfar. The Jotunborn have historically been associated with Hel, and since Hel took Frey from them, the Alfaran hatred of Hel transferred to Jotunborn in the absence of her presence.

Alfar on Alfheim now view Aesir and Vanir as just another race, but that doesn’t mean they let go of their hatred of anything that took Frey away from them. Alfar can often be contradictory.
