The Folkvargr

The Midgard Clan

They are a clan of Humans upon Midgard, discovered by those first travellers who went through the bifrost, who  have survivied there since the time of Ragnarok. They see themselves as the ‘Proven People;’ the ones who were left behind protected in order to pick up the pieces after Ragnarok, and to prove Humanities worthiness for the Gods return. The Folkvargr are a hardy people, living off the land and proving their worth on a daily basis through whatever job they have within their settlement. They do it with a sense of duty, believing they must keep their people and the world alive, almost in defiance to Hel.

The Folkvargr were kept safe from the worst of Hel's reign by a magical barrier, which had been there since before living memory. This barrier was a powerful magical shield that covered about 2000 acres of land, within which were the town, hamlets, and the villages of the Folkvargr clan. The origin of the barrier were never discovered, and there are no legends of its ‘creation’ at all in Folkvargr history. It had just always been there. It looked like a translucent line in the air, which faintly shimmered in multiple colours. For the most part it kept Hel’s minions out; the mindless things crashed against it nine times out of ten, but sometimes some got through. These always seemed stronger and surer of themselves, but the Folkvargr never knew why; and just concentrated on killing them instead.

The barrier disappeared when the Bifrost opened at the arch stones, now known as Rune's Landing, approximately three weeks before the first travellers arrival, and has not returned since.

The name ‘Folkvargr’ is in the old tongue; the original tongue of the Gods and means ‘people of the wolf.’
The clans-people believe this is in honour of Odin’s wolf, Geri and Freki, who it is believed still roam Midgard somewhere for no stories are told of them dying with their master. It is believed that they also protect the Folkvargr from Hel’s minions, keeping her eyes away from their refuge as much as possible, though they have never been seen.

Their culture revolves around their laws, religion and their kindreds. All aspects of life are governed by these three cornerstones of their lives, and presided over by the Council lead by the Folkvargr Karl.

The Treaty

A treaty was drawn up in the first couple of days after the first travellers decended to Midgard, in order for the higher realms to stay upon Folkvargr lands and have access to magic.

The details can be found through the link below, which will have been part of the briefing for any individual travelling to and settling upon Midgard.
