Īyonī

Īyonī /iːˈjoʊniː/ is a neutral city in the Eastern Principalities. Founded by Badnīl Qau as the capital city of the Kingdom of Kiŗaun, it became the sanctuary of his widow, Shania vin Qau on his passing. She also declared the city a neutral meeting place for their sons and grandsons, the princes who inherited the divided lands of the kingdom.

Structure

Īyonī is run by a governor, the Tikil, selected for a life term, or until they wish to step down. The Naidīdnal is in charge of the Dīdnalash (city guard) and Voshan Dīdnalash (palace guard). Representatives from each of the principalities sit in the Vauŗai Dīd. While the Vauŗai Dīd cannot make decisions for the city, they do select the Tīkil and Naidīdnal, as well as other city executives, and can, in some circumstances, remove the same.   In times of conflict, the Naidīdnal can act as a general, raising an army from the populace. This has only happened once in the history of Īyonī as a neutral city-state. When not in high-level conflict, the city guard is one of the best in the world and has taken on small armies on its own.

Author's Notes

The image is a cropped image of Hagia Sophia, with some editing to include the name of Īyonī on the green bar, which, in the source picture, has a logo and writing in what appears to be Arabic. It is used to represent the castle built by Badnīl Qau. I imagine the architecture of the Kingdom of Kiŗaun and the Eastern Principalities to be similar to Byzantine architecture.
