Employment
Performer in Madame Veehn's Circus.
Elina's act begins with her playing the part of a young maiden in a make-shift forest of wooden cut-out trees. As she strolls along, collecting flowers, the lamps are lit in such a way as to cause the audience to see two sets of eight eyes glint amongst the trees and slowly stalk closer to her. The giant spiders are very real, but they are actually Elina's pets which she has trained and who obey her every command. Small spikes, barely visible, are strapped on the insides of the two spiders' legs in order to make a skittering sound as they climb over the wooden trees and close in on their "prey". After a sufficient amount of building tension, Elina remains oblivious as the largest of the two becomes visible to the audience, hairy legs wiggling as it slowly descends upon her from above. Elina screams and the youngest spider joins the fun, rushing forward and spraying it's web onto the performer. Elina is pinned to the ground and slowly cocooned as the spiders make many purely theatrical noises by clacking their pincers and rear up, swatting the air with their front legs to frighten the audience. Once inside the cocoon, Elina deploys the costume hidden beneath her cloak and cuts herself free with a small dagger. She rises now with eight, fake spider legs spreading out behind her. She and her two pets "roar" to (hopefully) cheers from the crowd.
