Personal history
Gavo is of low-noble birth and particularly talented in the use of the long bow as well as martial tactics. He was a goodly man who devoted himself to his duty and striving to use his influence amongst the high-born to defend the poor and weak. He became the captain of the guard for the regent of (fill in city or state) at a young age thanks to his combat prowess and ability to charm even those who opposed him.
A few years later, during an uprising of peasants, his liege was dragged from his horse and literally pulled to pieces by the angry mob while Gavo watched. During his trial for dereliction of duty, Gavo argued that he was only partially at fault and that his liege was mostly responsable for his own demise by ignoring the needy. His judges, among them nobles who had disapproved Gavo's cause of fighting for equality among the classes, mocked his defense and the idea that there could be any excuse for the savagery of the low-folk. They announced their verdict to the sound of raucous laughter of those gathered at court. Since Gavo was only partially responsible, they would only partially flay him. His arm was also to be removed, since Gavo had refused to raise his bow to fire on the mob, the court judged that he no longer needed the arm to fire a bow. It was removed by saw over the next two days. Whenever Gavo passed out from the pain, the executioner would disinfect his arm and wait for him to wake in order to continue. When the task was done, or....partially done...Gavo was thrown from the city and left to die.
Employment
Performer in Madame Veehn's Circus
Gavo dazzles onlookers mostly by his appearance but also by the skilled use of his prosthetic arm. He displays precision with trick shots and sheer force by firing his bow through various obstacles (such as numerous bales of hay, etc.) and still sticking the arrow into the target on the other side.
Mental Trauma
Was physically mutilated as punishment for failing to protect his liege.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Madame Veehn found Gavo after he was flayed and left for dead outside of (fill in city). She nursed him back to health, for which Gavo bears a great deal of gratitude and resentment. Ever an entrepeneur, Madame Veehn commissioned the design and construction of the monstrous, prosthetic long bow after learning of Gavo's prowess with the weapon before his fall from grace.
Social
Speech
Gavo speaks only when he has no other choice. Having had his tongue split and the left half ripped from his mouth gives him a very unusual and noticeable speech impediment.
