S6 (8/29) : Is this a Door? A Window? A Stack of Pallets? The Party Stocks Up!
General Summary
This session starts outside the Stonehill Inn. Our party is gathered around the wagon, debating heading straight to Barthen's Provisions to unload the cargo and complete the task to delivering these provisions and weighing the benefits of recovering/replacing the missing flour. Eve Noir, generously offers to purchase two sacks of flour off the Innkeeper.
Cassidy's concern of the current environment here in Phandalin, chooses to head in the direction of Barthen's Provisions to gain a better perspective of the town and the mounting impression of the Redbrand's current influence. Our paladin, unable to let anyone be or put themselves in compromising positions, follows Cassidy on her head start to Barthen's.
Conversations continue amongst Jun, our new gnome companion Davnan Solnen and Warhun The Great. Although, not much was gained in the line of information. On the path to Barthen's Cassidy and Tector come upon three Redbrand thugs. These thugs inquire if we are passing through, or have longer stay business in town? They then inquire if we are coming from the Inn? Making note that there was a report of trouble from the Inn… trouble involving a dragonborn. Tector commands the Redbrand ruffian charged with investigating the incident to halt, and Cassidy uses her loquacious skills successfully to avoid any further entanglement for now….(these ruffians seem to have no concern for the information of a dead man back at the Inn).
When the rest of the adventures arrive at Barthen's stopping the wagon at the stables for unloading, there was quite some confusion on the proper entrance….. a window, a pile of stacked pallets…. possibly a door… this door…. that door????
The store is managed by Elmar Barthen a lean and balding human male shopkeeper of fifty years in a kindly manner. He employs a couple of young clerks (Ander and Thistle), who help load and unload wagons and who wait on customers when he is away. Supplies pretty much everything someone could need on a daily basis. From food to clothing to general supplies and tools, Barthen's Provisions has it all. The store is large enough that Elmar usually has some of the children from around the town come and help him clean and organize supplies throughout the day. The party was tasked with taking a wagon of supplies from Neverwinter to Barthen's. While they succeeded, they had to use some of the supplies in the raiding of Cragmaw hideout. While not the best outcome, Elmar still thanked them and paid them for what was left. (Missing ale was mentioned.....) All but Cassidy head into the shop to peruse the wears. Eve seeks the shopkeeper to get the unloading underway. While Cassidy and Ander unload the provisions, they engage in whispered and guarded conversation regarding the current environment, certain overbearing presence and the overall result. Inside the shop, Tector and Eve purchase holy water while Warhun and Jun share significant history and their ties to Phandalin. Amongst our number we have a former Redbrand enforcer once betrayed and defunct. A freedom fighter who helped rid Phandalin of their orc suppressors, who was nominated to take up rule for his great deeds, yet declined. Jun is quite unsettled to see this new oppressive blight on this town. After this discussion, the inspiring tea Jun consumed back at the Inn has taken its toll. He takes up a meditative seated position and proceeds to take a nap.
As the last of the cargo allocated to Barthen's is unloaded, Cassidy made a holy water purchase from Ander. Cassidy thanks Ander for all his assistance and candor while taking up guard duty of the rest of our cargo destined for the Lionshield Coster.
The rest of the team says their farewells and expresses gratitude to the shopkeeper and workers.
