General Summary
9 February 2024 - Session Fourteen
Attending: Abel (Erica), Arwyn (Dojin), Ben (GM), David (Graal), Tracey (Callie), Walter (Tavor “Tave” Eejelb)
Absent: No one
Arwyn haphazardly gave a summary of the previous session.
We set a course for 0053 System • SE-197962-D'KOT-0053. Graal wants weapons. Dojin pitches all sorts of outlandish weapon ideas but Graal thinks we should limit it to phasers for now. Dojin is disappointed. Dojin puts out a general message on the ship’s bulletin board asking for feature requests for the buggy. Erica sends Dojin a safety manual for land vehicles, which Dojin promptly scoffs at. Tavor recommends shield generators.
Erica runs a scan of the planets in the system for valuable resources. There is Dilithium on the 2 Class J Planets. Tavor runs a mining survey scan of the class J planets. He discovers Rubindium in addition to the dilithium. We are a bit low on dilithium on the shuttle. It would be good to get some more.
The dilithium is in the atmosphere of one of the J class gas giants. Actually, we determine that the dilithium signatures are on a small moon. The signatures are coming from small bits of rock in the planet’s atmosphere.
On the Linnaeus’ Type 6 shuttle, Graal, Dojin, and Callie fly into the atmosphere to beam up a dilithium sample to study. Tavor and Erica remain behind on the Linnaeus. Tavor plots the course for the shuttle, Graal does the piloting, and Callie will operate the transporters. Dojin is there to reinforce the hull if the atmosphere is too much. Callie beams a sample on board, but a stray rock hits the shuttle’s outer hull. It has disabled our comms.
After some purposefully rough flying after Graal was insulted by Dojin’s comments on his piloting, we land successfully in the shuttle bay.
Tavor helps to unload the sample from the shuttle.
On the bridge, Erica receives a signal from a small ship. It is following our ship. It’s not moving aggressively. Erica calls Graal up to the bridge, and runs a tactical scan. No weapons, no shields up. One life sign. She believes it is a VinShari life sign. They hail us.
They identify themselves as Captain Pertree (she, her) of the Zanda. Erica asks if they need assistance. She says no, but she’s an explorer, and was curious about us.
Erica invites her over for dinner. Pertree counters that we should come over for dinner. They debate, but ultimately Erica is able to convince her to come over because the Linnaeus is larger. She asks if we observe the cultural practice of bringing gifts to the dinner table. Erica says we can accommodate her cultural practice.
Callie will operate the transporter, while Graal is suspicious, and asks for an insight check. Graal and Erica believes that she’s holding something back, she is being guarded, but not dishonest. She was appropriately disappointed that we did not agree to come over to her ship. At the transporter controls, Callie runs a weapons and anything else harmful. She has a sword or rapier attached to her waist. Callie works to separate the weapon from her during transport.
Callie runs a check on her quantum signature. It does not match the previous mirror universe people. Captain Pertree is beamed aboard without her sword successfully. Erica greets her.
Callie informs her that her weapon remains on her ship. She carries with her a ‘bottle of the 82.’
Erica gives her a tour of the Linnaeus, starting with her quarters. She shows the Captain her favorite books. Graal follows behind the Captain during the tour, keeping an eye on her. He’s assessed her martial skill as substandard.
Pertree explains during the tour that her job is trading information. She mentions the new gambling game she came across recently.
Erica shows her the rest of the ship, ending in the mess hall. Callie is in her quarters. Tavor is in his lab going over the sample obtained from the planet, scanning it for dangerous stuff and developing a plan to extract what is needed.
We end the night in the mess hall, about to socialize with Captain Pertree
