Brosten Manor

Purpose / Function

Originally an old manor house belonging to one of the original inhabitants of Salike, Broston Manor is now a private museum owned by Baron Fergil Durforth. It houses his growing collection of pre-Quake artifacts, and an extensive collection of curios and trinkets from some of the other cultures around the world.

Alterations

The building had been damaged during The Great Quake but not to the extent of most of the other buildings in the old city. It's roof had mostly collapsed along with some of it's internal walls, but it's exterior was mostly intact. It had been rebuilt by a previous owner and turned into a hotel and tavern, it remained such for two hundred years, changing hands as time passed. It was then bought by the newly formed government of Salike and turned into government headquarters. The windows and doors were replaced by more modern and secure versions, and a couple of extra guardposts were built into the wall which surrounds the Manor. The internal decor was upgraded, and plumbing installed.   It remained as a government hedquarters for about three hundred years, but then they moved to a new purpose built building, in the new government square. The Baron bought it a couple years later, upgraded the interior decor again, installed lighting and thermal heating, built a large sunroom to the back and increased all the security measures of the building. He has owned the building for the last fifteen years.

Tourism

The museum is not open to the general public, but entry can be gained by appointment if you ae important enough, have the coin or know the right people. The Baron will often host viewing parties when he has new pieces to show off, these are all by invite only and usually consist of the who's who of Salike, foreign dignitaries and noted scholars and historians. Once a year, he has a grand viewing where members of the public can come and look around his collection. During this time he hides the most valuable pieces in the vault and doubles up on security throughout the building.
