Trolls

Gnapic: To óroll /thɔː ouːɾɔʟ/
Trolls are one of the sapient species that inhabit Borgalor, relatives of Goblins and Orcs and the only people who survived in the Southlands after the continent broke from Örkraz and drifted closer towards the south pole.
There they remained isolated from the rest of the world for millennia, developing numerous different cultures across the continent in order to adapt to the changing climate and environment, such as sedentary societies farming lichen and mushrooms in the hinterlands, harvesting kelp on the Þöton Peninsula, fishing in the rivers, and hunting and semi-domesticating various native fauna.
The arrival of people from Jælondis and Örkraz and their subsequent settling in certain coastal regions, notably the Þöton Peninsula and Rúþría, caused a great deal of conflicts and migrations among various trollish tribes for the last few centuries, and only recently has an uneasy equilibrium been established among the two factions for the most part, though it's threatened by growing demand for more land and resources as a result of overpopulation among the settlers.

Appearance and abilities

Compared to orcs and goblins, trolls are much larger, stronger and more robust, though not as tall as Cyclopes, able to punch through massive boulders or throw them across great distances but tire easily, and thus usually move slowly to conserve energy.
Trolls have thick, grey, rhinoceros-like skin to protect themselves from the bitter cold of southlandic winters, which combined with their grey hair allows trolls to camouflage themselves against rocky terrain. Their eyes adapt to the amount of light available depending on the season by turning brown during summertime and steel-grey during winters.
Although they prefer cooked food, trolls can easily eat and digest raw -even frozen- meat, skin and bones as well as tough plants.

Arcane abilities

Trolls' ability to use magic is restricted to short but powerful bursts which use up most of their arcane reserves each time and take a long while to regenerate. In many trollish societies, using magic for anything else but making fire is prohibited, which can burn for days using special alchemical mixtures, the making of which is a closely kept secret among the central southlandic tribes.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

Currently, the largest trollish tribe is Orró Gnaunk to the northeast.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Apparel

Clothing among trolls is generally minimal, if any, due to their resistance to the cold, though musk beast furs are used by certain tribes to make bags, sashes and headbands, often adorned with talons, fangs and feathers.

Architecture

Most trollish societies make extensive use of caves and -around the south pole- tunnels under glaciers as shelters, as the few native trees found in the Southlands are ill-suited as building materials, though certain sedentary tribes make stone enclosures for their semi-domesticated livestock and, more recently, have erected standing stones to mark the boundaries between troll and outsiders' territory.
