Shrine of Sarus

General Description

The Shrine of Sarus is a hidden and mysterious place of worship dedicated to Sarus, the Lady of Shadows, and the patron of secrets, thieves, and assassins. Nestled in the northwestern part of Ebonkeep, the shrine is unassuming and easily overlooked by those not specifically seeking it. Its exterior is marked only by a simple door with a carved owl's face above it, symbolizing Sarus. The shrine is located beneath a set of stone stairs, making it barely visible from the street.

Key Features

Unassuming Entrance: The entrance to the shrine is modest and blends seamlessly into the surrounding architecture. The carved owl's face above the door is the only indication of its true purpose.   The Interior: Inside, the shrine is dimly lit and filled with an aura of secrecy. The main chamber features a single altar draped in a black cloth. The atmosphere is one of quiet reverence and hidden knowledge.   Acolytes: The acolytes of Sarus are the keepers of the shrine. They wear black cloaks and silver masks shaped like an owl's face, which obscure their identities and give them an eerie, emotionless presence. Each acolyte also wears a simple silver pendant, known as the Pendant of the Forgotten, which curses them to be forgotten by all those they meet and knew before.   Whispered Answers: Visitors come to the shrine to seek answers to their most pressing and secretive questions. The acolytes provide cryptic and often ambiguous answers, designed to invoke more questions than they answer. The more secretive the question, the higher the toll the seeker must pay.   Acolyte Training: The acolytes of Sarus are rigorously trained in a combination of clerical, assassin, and spy skills. They are adept at gathering information, stealth, and combat. Despite their formidable abilities, they are bound by their vow of secrecy and the curse of the Pendant of the Forgotten.

Services Offered

Divinations and Answers: People come to the shrine to ask questions of the acolytes, seeking guidance or information. The answers given are often cryptic, meant to provoke deeper thought and understanding.   Toll for Secrets: The toll for receiving answers is based on the secrecy and importance of the question. Payment is made in coin, valuable items, or occasionally in services rendered to the shrine.   Bounty Missions: The acolytes often take on missions to capture fugitives or eliminate dangerous individuals. They are considered to be bounty hunters of a sort, using their unique skills to maintain order and protect secrets.
