The Silver Strand
Running through the center of modern day Brackenport like a heart in a body is the great River, now surrounded by what is being called "The Silver Strand".
In the announcement declaring the development plan for the new district The Grand Council called it "a new hub of social life and leisure along our beautiful waterfront". Since then we have seen construction of a wide walking path along the banks as well as well-maintained ferry stops to help with the crushing traffic on the bridges already spanning the river. In the few months since the announcement outdoor restaurants and meeting halls have sprung up in the area claimed by the strand, and the area has been groomed to a beautiful shine.
Some local residents and businesses have decried the new developments, including long-time land owners who feel that the council has overstepped in re-designing the area. Several small business owners we spoke to have complained that they have been pushed out by these new investments or forced to move their operations to The Wharfs due to the new regulations on shipping and loading operations on the riverside.
Is the Silver Strand a beautiful icon of the true Brackenport, or a shady attempt to re-write our city's image and stamp out those who don't fit in with the official image?
