The Black Steppes is a section of the Anakir Aomar Desert in North Storm , notable for its black sand.

Geography

The Black Steppes is mostly in northern Storm, but slightly passes the border into Alamara .

Ecosystem

Almost nothing can survive here. Even most cactus need more water than can be found in The Black Steppes. The Black Steppes is the hottest, driest section of the Anakir Aomar Desert which lead to its nickname "The Black Hell".
This isn't to say that it's impossible to live and survive here, however it's not advised.

History

In ancient times, The Black Steppes had a bustling population, which was destroyed by a great flood in 2488. Around 700 years later, in -1763, it's been reestablished as livable with the city of Quan Ma being built in the ruins. There's hundreds of temples, ruins, and statues that have fallen into disrepair and are now primarily tourist attractions. Historically, this was a place that worshiped Uohr, a god that is considered long dead with no modern followers.

Due to the nature of it being the hottest and driest place in Callisto, people living in The Black Steppes have many cultural traditions based around the rain, including large scale celebrations outdoors called The Rain Festival.

Tourism

Despite being one of the most inhospitable places on earth, The Black Steppes sees its fair share of tourists due to the city of Quan Ma  built around an oasis named The Spring of Ancestors.
