For the military, one must have earned a degree (in the past it was given to nobility whether they deserved it or not).
For The Cyclone Pirates, one usually has to be a Thalara, but one always has to know how to live the life and how to care for other pirates.

- Passed all exams or earned the respect of others
- Knowledgable about the sea
Appointment
Rank is pinned on and they are given a ship to command.
Ceremony for the deceased Captain. Two days of silence. Handing of Captain's hat and books to the new person. Drinking, feasting and boasterous activity.
Duties
- Taking care of the crew/pirates
- Following orders and passing them down the line
- Bring Glory to Country/Pirates
Benefits
Military gets paid in Silver and Gold at a higher wage. They are given better housing for themselves.
The Cyclone Pirates have the best cabin on the ship, first dibs from what is raided, and the better house on land.
