Bremo

Government

Bremo is led by the local clergy of the Claret Covenant who also acts as the local sheriff or mayor in absence of a local noble. Deacon Antonia is a keeper of tradition who leans on the older generation for the most support in gathering necessary taxes and other dues that must make their way to the region's nobility. As stated prior, the elder generation of Bremo hold a great deal of respect and some afforded power from the deacon to run the town as efficiently and traditionally as possible.

Industry & Trade

Much of the trade that comes through Bremo passes through on the road. Merchants may pass through to collect produce to sell in the next town, but it is more likely that farmers make the day and a half journey on the road to sell in Somza and bring other wears when available.

Infrastructure

Orchards

The orchards of Bremo are its lifeblood. Acording to the oldest generation, the trees were planted when the town was founded and the people tended to the orchards and expanded them. Even among the many orchards that are spread across the land, those in this region of the country may have even heard of the small town simply for its delicious fruits (mostly plums, but also apples), and by extension the traditional plum dumplings made with them.

Tradespeople

Most tradespeople here are associated with the farms and orchards. The elders of the town run the orchard as a community while other members are farmers of other crops or workers in the orchards.
Zosek’s Carvings. Zosek is a very talented lizardfolk woodcarver who specializes in ornately carved reliefs. Particularly those on objects like shields. With the ample supply of wood the town has, they moved here three years ago from the northeast. Each crest they have seen, they have made an ornate shield for, though most are not sold in town, and they keep some for themself, including a crest they designed for their own family (regardless of his lack of noble blood), which some see as an act of disrespect.     Dunka’s Woodwork. Dunka ("Doon-ka") is a dwarf who runs a modest woodworking shop built within a copse of elder trees at the edge of town. Most in town thinks she is strange, but know she is a good craftsperson and put up with the oddities that conversation with her comes with. Dunka often tells the local children stories while they work on furnature and other pieces, telling stories of meeting spirits, witches, and other things in the woods. They seem to have a strange affinity for the forest regardless of their trade, and do not waste a piece of wood they are given to work on.

History

On the 15/8/999 QR, the village was found to be conducting heretical rituals, draining sacrifices of blood under their "elder tree" to feed what they believed to be an embodiment of the Red Queen. A group led by two nobles uncovered the imposter creature while in a state of growth or feeding beneath the tree and killed it and the deacon who defended it. With the creature dead, the tree withered.

With the Elder Tree dead, those cultists most attached to it, whose vitality was being strengthened and lifetimes lengthened - the elders of the village - fell ill and died within a few days. The fruit of the orchard dulled in taste and some of it simply rotted away with the trees they grew upon - mostly those that were in close proximity to the Elder Tree.

Points of interest

Elder Tree. The elder tree was a tree in the center of the orchards that are Bremo's lifeblood. It is said to have been the first of the trees that were found there and was believed by both the deacon of the village and its elders to be a blessing from the Red Queen due to its blood-red flowers that bloom at night around the time of year when the Queen's Moon is full.
As of 15/8/999 QR, the Elder Tree is little more than an empty husk of the remaining bark of the tree, the entire interior of the tree seemingly rotted away.

People of Note

Deacon Antonia. The middle-aged deacon of the the village of Bremo is a charismatic woman with a lot of earned respect within the settlement both due to her station and her traditional views that have steered the village to a place of veritable wealth for its size and place her alongside the elders of the village in terms of values. She is a beacon of tradition in the town and an upholder of the Queen's word as all deacons are.     The Elders. The elders of the village make up a secondary governing group under the deacon. Their families are the ones who founded Bremo's orchards and are well respected for both their age and experience and their running of the village's main source of trade.
  Pruska
Pruska. Former illusionist. Human woman. Tangled golden hair and amber eyes. Prominent ears (half-elf). Wears travel-stained clothing and keeps a walking stick or quarterstaff handy by habit. She was once a promising illusionist who went away to study in a nearby town, but her studies led her to lose her shadow to a spirit of the forest, and with it her propencity for illusion magic. She returned shortly afterward some years ago.

  Mira
Mira. White hair and green eyes, with many jagged scars. Wears fine clothing and a silver holy symbol. Instinctive and bold. Elderly woman who tells stories to the children of the town. She is known to them as "Old Mira" or "Grandma Mira". She is one of the loudest voices in support of the deacon at any town meeting and belongs to one of the families that founded the orchards. She is over 90 years old while still working in them. She and the deacon are often seen together.
