Ah, The West

That heavy-handed noun used with reverence and animosity for it’s caprice promise of untold discovery. Just remember it was never clearly stated said to who or what that promise was made.

Yes, that West.

The year is 1880. The start of a new decade and near the end of a century. The most recent state to make it out of the no man’s land of being a territory and climb to statehood was Colorado about four years ago. The great Transcontinental Rail line—which snakes its way through States and Territories alike—has been finished and fully operational for eleven years now. Just last year they said Greenbacks are now worth the same as gold. I can tell you they are a whole lot lighter and easier to carry around—but no guarantee that everyone will accept them. And later this year, we’re all getting ready to elect ourselves the 20th President of this country.

But you? Why, I don’t know if you care about all of that. Or if it’ll even matter to you. From what I’ve been able to gather, y’all after something other than gold or fame. It seems knowledge and truth are your pursuits out here. Just know with all that searching your set to do, you might get something to come looking for you.

Good luck, and sleep with one eye open.
