Half-Elf

Half Elves (or Bastards as less sensitive Elves may call them) are the result of one of the Elven races pairing with a Human. The similar genetics allow a hybrid child to be born, but because of the chromosome mismatch, the child is sterile. Some other interesting things arise from the mixed heritage. Half Elves gestate and grow at the speed of a Human, which is normally quite draining and startling if the mother is an Elf.
Also, a Half Elf will reach maturity in their teens, while Elves normally don’t reach full maturity until their 30’s. Half Elves generally have the slender features and pointed ears of their Elven side, but will also exhibit strong resemblance to their human parent, human ethnicity being clearly apparent and male Half Elves are capable of growing beards.
Half Elves are not fully immortal like full bloods, for the first 80-100 years of their life a Half Elf seems to stay in their prime like a full blood, however afterwards their bodies then seem to start aging to the state of a 50 year old human. At about 200 years, Half Elves generally start to become frail and don’t tend to live much longer, usually having the aged appearance of an 80 year old human. In light of these factors, the mainstream Elven culture frowns upon any of their own kind that would choose to pair bond with a human, since any offspring would be infertile and not be able to contribute to their population. Half Elves are often shunned by more traditional full bloods, though they find that Human society often welcomes them and even find them somewhat of a novelty. While a Half Elf doesn’t have the sharp senses of a full blood, they retain some acute ability and also exhibit some of their human sides tenacity, adaptability and creativeness.
Many Half Elves take up lives as adventurers and mercenaries, in a hope to make a name for themselves and leave some sort of legacy, since having offspring and a happy family life is not really an option.
