The Power of Words

Words have inherent power to them, all people know this to be true. With a single word, a ruler can send forth his armies, a person can cut another down with harsh words spoken with malice and soft words spoken in seclusion can achieve all sorts of results.
The 12 Magi were the first to learn the power of words. For our creator himself shared some elements of their power. The ancient tongue, it's words and letters are filled with potential magical energy. Just as The Maker, Elshaion spoke this world into being, he taught us how to shape the remnants of that power into magic.
While one can learn to weave spells with gestures or drawn symbols, their real power is drawn from the words of the ancient language. When one speaks a word of power, while pouring anima into a spell, you feel the heat and energy course out of your throat, the coppery, smokey taste of raw power fills ones mouth as the words exit and bring forth amazing wonders....

Summary

The 'Ancient' Language, is an archaic tongue and writing that the Centran language evolved from. While it is not commonly spoken anymore, the language is still used in many ancient texts and in the casting of magic. Words draw power and energy from Anima, building the power of a spell and giving a clearer form and direction for the mystic energies. While the spoken word is strongest, it's written form can also be used to great effect.
