Triggered by aggression from one city state, the rising hero Balrus Thriax ends up forging an empire out of the Armidian city states and being crowned as the first Emperor.

The city state of Valenia makes a pact with the Zaanites, a barbarian tribe from across the southern ocean, to help them defeat the surrounding kingdoms and take a position of dominance. The western city states decided to band together under the leadership of Balrus Thriax. Claiming the title of Emperor, Balrus leads the combined might of the remaining kingdoms against Valenia and their Zaanite allies, crushing them.

He then consolidates his position, dealing with a Myrr invasion to the south west, then went and conquered the remaining lands to the north and east. Fighting is stalled in Fremilan, the natural mountains acting as a wall and the formidable Black Knights inspiring fear in his armies.
The Duke of Fremilian, Leyon Amarand brokered peace with the Empire, promising to protect the eastern border in return for retaining independence and a diplomatic voice within the empire.
