Religions

Religions of the World

Unlike most RPG settings, my goal here is to provide flexibility and a sence of immersion & realism as much as possible in a fantasy setting, thus there are several different organized religions that are prevalent within the Channel Cities region as well as throughout the World of Ærnth. Two of them are monotheistic, and are actually different sects of the same basic belief structure; these include The Church of the All Father, the Great One, Jailsahaim and Venerari. There are also some nature/shamanistic groups such as Asarlaíocht, Druidry (Druidical College) and Tungrian. Also detailed are pantheonic (multi-deity) religions including the World Pantheon and the Halinafu Sect.   It is assumed that the GM who uses this work will likely add their own religions or leave room for players to add religions based on the envisioned beliefs of their characters. Ultimately the goal of any RPG setting is to provide an interesting and useable world that is detailed enough to feel believable to the players. As an example, one of the past players had actually developed his own religion (kind of a spin-off of Asarlaíocht and Halinafu based off of a legend that already existed within the J3 Black Swan District of Martelain within the Channel Cities), and as such was rewarded for this type of creativity (as should be the case) as it has added both depth to the setting and provided for some potentially interesting plot hooks.   Following you will find descriptions of the religions listed, including their beliefs, deities, and structure, as well as their views of each other:   Asarlaíocht   Black Swan "Church of...", "Children of..."   Boddharra   Church of the All Father   Druidry   Great One   Halinafu   Jailsahaim   Shamanism   Tungrian   Venerari   World Pantheon
